Secretory IgA

ANALYTES

Analytes are the substances measured in this test, which include:

  • Secretory IgA

rESULTS

sample Req.

Secretory IgA levels are interpreted against reference ranges to determine whether concentrations fall within expected limits or demonstrate low levels consistent with impaired gastrointestinal immunity and increased susceptibility to gastrointestinal infections, imbalances and inflammation.

The results of your health assessment have identified specific signs and symptoms that are clinically consistent with an increased risk of

  • Low Secretory IgA

Secretory IgA is the predominant immunoglobulin in mucosal secretions, including the gastrointestinal tract, where it plays a critical role in maintaining mucosal immunity by neutralising pathogens and preventing microbial adhesion to the intestinal epithelium. Low levels of secretory IgA in stool indicates impaired mucosal immune function and can predispose individuals to increased susceptibility to gastrointestinal infections, imbalances and inflammation.

If your results indicate a high likelihood of one or more of the following conditions in a chronic presentation, this may be associated with low Secretory IgA. The severity and duration of the condition often correlate with the degree of mucosal immune inefficiency

  • Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth

  • Candidiasis

  • Helminth / Worm Infection

  • Protozoal Parasitic Infection

  • Biofilms

  • Gastritis, Peptic Ulcers, Reflux + GORD

  • Functional Dyspepsia - H.Pylori Positive

  • Chronic bloating and abdominal discomfort

  • Recurrent Diarrhoea

This investigation is optional and may be used to verify one component of an impaired gastrointestinal immune system [ Impaired GALT ].

It is important to note being one component of a complex system, if testing affirms healthy range of Secretory IgA, it does not rule out other components of the gastrointestinal immune network requiring support, such as

  • Faulty T cells

  • B cells that don’t mature properly

  • Missing M cells

Testing enables confirmation of low Secretory IgA only, as part of a large and complex network, so normal results do not discount working on the gastrointestinal tract immune network, and positive results affirm one component as a necessary requirement.

A stool analysis kit will be dispatched directly to you, accompanied by detailed written instructions outlining appropriate sample collection procedures to ensure specimen integrity and accuracy of results.

The kit includes all necessary collection materials and a prepaid return package to facilitate secure transport back to the laboratory for processing.

To minimise transit delays and preserve sample stability, collection is to be completed on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday only, thereby avoiding weekend postage interruptions.

Estimated Turnaround Time: 5 business days
