Neurotransmitter Profile
ANALYTES
Analytes are the substances measured in this test, which include:
Serotonin
GABA
Glutamate
Dopamine
Noradrenaline
Adrenaline
rESULTS
sample Req.
Neurotransmittor analyte levels are interpreted against reference ranges to determine whether concentrations fall within expected limits or demonstrate consistent levels of dysregulation of the sympathetic nervous system.
Low serotonin reduces stress buffering and weakens parasympathetic regulation, making sympathetic activation more easily triggered and sustained. High serotonin supports emotional stability and autonomic balance.
Low GABA reduces inhibitory control, allowing hyperarousal to persist, presenting as tension, restlessness, and poor sleep.
High glutamate increases excitatory drive, contributing to racing thoughts, sensory hypersensitivity, and sustained arousal.
Low dopamine may reduce motivation and stress resilience. High dopamine may increase drive, impulsivity, and agitation under stress.
High noradrenaline reflects sustained sympathetic hyperactivation, associated with vigilance, muscle tension, and elevated blood pressure.
High adrenaline reflects acute sympathetic surges, presenting as palpitations, tremor, and panic-like symptoms.
It is important to note that neurotransmitters are produced in multiple areas of the body, including the gut, adrenal glands, peripheral nerves, and also within the brain itself. However, the brain is protected by a specialised barrier called the blood–brain barrier, which tightly regulates what substances can move in and out. Neurotransmitters, including serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline do not freely cross this barrier.
For this reason, despite this urinary neurotransmitter testing serotonin and dopamine, it is levels outside of the brain in peripheral circulation. This provides useful information about overall stress and nervous system physiology, but as it does not directly measure neurotransmitter activity within the brain, it is best considered a supportive assessment tool alongside clinical symptoms for other conditions such as serotonin and dopamine deficiency.

The results of your health assessment have identified specific signs and symptoms that are clinically consistent with an increased risk of
Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) Hyperactivation
SNS Hyperactivation is associated with a range of signs and symptoms, which have been clinically verified to include
Tongue twitches or tremors
Busy and distracted brain
Repetitive thoughts + behaviours
Sensory hypersensitivity
Racing thoughts
Quick to frustration or impatience
Exaggerated reactions to sudden stimuli
Difficulty sitting still, constant movement
Difficulty modulating stress related emotions
Hypervigilant to dangers or threats
Iris furrows
Neck and shoulder tightness
Back tightness
Jaw clenching + teeth grinding
Tension headaches
Poor eating habits + food cravings
Intense dreams + disrupted sleep
Digestive disorders
Energy fluctuations
Sugar cravings
Frequent urination
Headaches + migraines
High blood pressure or blood pressure spikes
Irregular heart rhythms
This investigation is optional and may be used to verify the need for SNS regulation.
In the absence of testing, treatment for SNS Hyperactivity is tailored to address suspected contributors based on the presence of specific signs and symptoms and their degree of correlation with those contributors.
If testing is undertaken, the assessment will be re-evaluated in accordance with the test results. You will be updated with the test results alongside any treatment revisions necessary.
A urinary neurotransmitter collection kit will be provided for the assessment of neurotransmitter levels. The kit includes detailed instructions outlining the required collection protocol.
A pre-addressed, secure return package is included to facilitate safe transport of the specimen to the laboratory, where quantitative analysis will be performed using validated analytical techniques.
