Glycosylated Haemoglobin

ANALYTES

Analytes are the substances measured in this test, which include:

  • Glycated haemoglobin - HbA1c

rESULTS

sample Req.

HbA1c, is a measure of how much glucose has attached to haemoglobin in red blood cells. Since red blood cells live for approximately three months, this test reflects your average blood sugar levels over the past 8 - 12 weeks, rather than standard single day testing.

The advantage is that HbA1c reflects longer-term trends in how effectively the body regulates and clears glucose. This makes it a more stable and clinically meaningful indicator of overall sugar control than a single day test alone.

  • HbA1C less than 5.7 indicative of normal glucose levels

  • HbA1C, 5.7 - 6.4, indicates impaired glucose tolerance

  • HbA1c > 6.4, indicates diabetes

  • Ideal HbA1c < 5.5

The results of your health assessment have identified specific signs and symptoms that are clinically consistent with an increased risk of

Impaired glucose tolerance is associated with a range of signs and symptoms, which have been clinically verified to include

This investigation is optional and may be used to verify the need for regulating blood sugar levels.

In the absence of testing, the treatment plan is tailored to address suspected contributors based on the presence of specific signs and symptoms and their degree of correlation with those contributors. If testing is undertaken, the assessment will be re-evaluated in accordance with the test results. You will be updated with the test results alongside any treatment revisions necessary.

A blood collection kit will be dispatched to you by post.

This collection kit must be presented to an affiliated pathology provider, where a qualified phlebotomist will perform the blood draw and arrange return of the specimen to the laboratory in accordance with standard handling protocols.
