Calprotectin levels are interpreted against reference ranges to determine whether concentrations fall within expected limits or demonstrate elevated inflammation consistent with inflammatory bowel disease
A borderline faecal calprotectin level 51 - 100 can reflect mild inflammation. Borderline elevations may be seen in a range of conditions including early or quiescent Inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal infections, abnormal colorectal cells, or as a pharmacological effect of medications such as NSAIDs, aspirin, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
Elevated faecal calprotectin >100 is linked to infectious colitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and neoplasms (cancer).

This investigation is optional and positive results can be used as a pre-examination to determine if an endoscopy is required for suspected inflammatory bowel disease.
A stool analysis kit will be dispatched directly to you, accompanied by detailed written instructions outlining appropriate sample collection procedures to ensure specimen integrity and accuracy of results.
The kit includes all necessary collection materials and a prepaid return package to facilitate secure transport back to the laboratory for processing.
To minimise transit delays and preserve sample stability, collection is to be completed on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday only, thereby avoiding weekend postage interruptions.
