Tribulus Forte is specifically formulated to address low progesterone levels, a common underlying factor in PMS and PMDD symptoms. Low progesterone during the luteal phase can trigger emotional symptoms including anxiety, irritability, mood swings, and depression due to reduced production of allopregnanolone, a neurosteroid that modulates GABA receptors in the brain to maintain calm and emotional stability.

Tribulus terrestris, the key active ingredient in this formula, has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in supporting healthy ovulation and progesterone production, particularly in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and irregular cycles. In women with PCOS, Tribulus has been shown to increase the frequency of ovulation, decrease the size of ovarian cysts, normalize menstrual irregularity, and restore normal ovarian function through its antiestrogenic action [60]. Clinical research comparing Tribulus to standard pharmaceutical ovulation inducers found that 750 mg per day taken for 5 days resulted in a 61% increase in serum FSH, supporting healthy ovulation [59]. Most impressively, Tribulus demonstrated a 60% effectiveness rate for inducing ovulation in women with irregular cycles or complete loss of ovulation, which was more effective than the pharmaceutical drug clomiphene at 47% [59].

The mechanism behind Tribulus's effectiveness lies in its ability to support the fundamental processes required for progesterone production. In a controlled study on rats with polycystic ovaries, Tribulus administration for 2 months resulted in increased corpora lutea and follicular development, significantly more advanced follicles improving the probability of ovulation, significantly reduced number of ovarian cysts, and improved overall ovarian morphology that resembled normal, cycling ovaries [58]. This restoration of healthy ovarian function directly translates to improved progesterone production, as progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum that forms after successful ovulation.

The protodioscin content in Tribulus terrestris is particularly important, as this bioactive compound contributes to the herb's hormone-balancing effects. Research demonstrates that when PCOS-induced rats were treated with a combination including Tribulus at 198 mg per kilogram for 28 days, the treatment normalized menstrual cycle length, increased FSH levels while decreasing elevated LH, estradiol, and testosterone toward normal ranges, reduced ovarian weight, and restored healthy ovarian morphology with reduced cystic follicles [61]. These hormonal improvements create the optimal environment for healthy progesterone production and regular menstrual cycles.
