Clinical Benefits

Palmetto Plus is specifically formulated to address elevated dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, which can contribute to hair loss, acne, oily skin, and benign prostatic hyperplasia in men. This comprehensive blend targets the key enzymes responsible for converting testosterone to DHT while supporting healthy hormone balance through multiple complementary mechanisms.

Zinc bisglycinate serves as a foundational mineral that inhibits both 5α-reductase type 1 and 2 enzymes, effectively reducing DHT production. Clinical research demonstrates that zinc supplementation at 57 mg daily can reduce the DHT to testosterone ratio by 60% after 90 days, while simultaneously increasing testosterone levels by over 100%[41]. This dual action is particularly beneficial for prostate health, as zinc deficiency is common in prostate disorders, with prostatic zinc levels reduced by over 50% in benign prostatic hyperplasia tissue[42]. For hair health, studies show women with DHT-associated hair loss had significantly lower zinc levels, with serum zinc 49% lower and hair zinc 28% lower than healthy controls[45]. Additionally, zinc supplementation at 30 mg daily for two months leads to a 28-32% reduction in inflammatory acne lesions[46].

Red clover isoflavones provide targeted support for prostate health through their phytoestrogenic properties. In a 12-month clinical trial involving 20 men taking 60 mg of red clover isoflavones daily, participants experienced a significant 33% decrease in PSA levels and a 10% reduction in mean prostate volume, with no adverse effects on sexual function. Serenoa repens (Saw palmetto) extract delivers potent 5α-reductase inhibition through its rich fatty acid profile, including sterols and aliphatic alcohols. Clinical studies using 320mg daily of standardized saw palmetto extract (equivalent to Permixon) demonstrate benefits comparable to the pharmaceutical Finasteride for benign prostatic hyperplasia, reducing nighttime urination episodes by 33%, decreasing daytime urinary frequency by 11%, and increasing peak urinary flow rate by 26%[8][9]. For hair loss, a 2-year clinical trial showed that 320mg daily of saw palmetto led to hair growth in 38% of participants, particularly effective in the crown area, with excellent tolerability and no sexual side effects[7].

Urtica dioica (Nettle root) extract complements these effects by providing additional anti-inflammatory support and helping to modulate hormone metabolism. While nettle root is well-established in traditional medicine for prostate health, its primary mechanism involves reducing inflammation and supporting healthy urinary function rather than direct DHT inhibition.

This synergistic combination addresses elevated DHT through multiple pathways - enzymatic inhibition, hormone binding modulation, and tissue-specific protection - providing comprehensive support for those experiencing DHT-related symptoms including hair loss, acne, and prostate concerns.

Clove might lower blood sugar levels. Taking clove along with diabetes medications might cause blood sugar to drop too low. Monitor your blood sugar closely.

Estrogens

• Oral contraceptive pill

• Estradiol

• Conjugated estrogens

• HRT combination products

Large amounts of red clover might have some of the same effects as estrogen. Taking red clover along with estrogen might decrease the effects of estrogen.

Methotrexate

• Trexall

• Otrexup

• Rasuvo

• Used for: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, certain cancers

Red clover might increase levels of methotrexate in the body. This might increase side effects from methotrexate such as vomiting and stomach pain.

Tamoxifen

• Soltamox

• Used for: breast cancer treatment and prevention

Red clover might decrease the effects of tamoxifen. Do not take red clover if you are taking tamoxifen.

Saw palmetto seems to decrease estrogen levels in the body. Taking saw palmetto along with estrogen pills might decrease their effects.

Medications that slow blood clotting

• Heparin

• Rivaroxaban

• Apixaban

• Dabigatran

• Clopidogrel

Saw palmetto might slow blood clotting. Taking saw palmetto along with medications that also slow blood clotting might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.

Stinging nettle might lower blood sugar levels. Taking stinging nettle along with diabetes medications might cause blood sugar to drop too low. Monitor your blood sugar closely.

• Jantoven

• Used for: blood thinning, clot prevention

Stinging nettle above ground parts contain large amounts of vitamin K. Vitamin K is used by the body to help blood clot. By helping the blood clot, stinging nettle might decrease the effects of warfarin. Be sure to have your blood checked regularly. The dose of your warfarin might need to be changed.

Diuretics

• Diuretic drugs

Stinging nettle can decrease potassium levels. "Diuretics" can also decrease potassium levels. Taking stinging nettle along with "Diuretics" might make potassium levels drop too low.
