Fenugreeks therapeutic effect is primarily attributed to its high content of biologically active steroidal saponins, especially diosgenin, which exhibit estrogenic activity by mimicking the body's natural estrogens. Additionally, evidence suggests fenugreek can enhance estrogen receptor sensitivity, providing further physiological support to alleviate menopausal symptoms.

In one study, 22 postmenopausal women took 250 mg, twice daily, for 8 weeks. Within 2 weeks of starting supplementation, women reported noticeable improvements, which continued to improve over the 6-week intervention. Specifically:

Hot flashes were reduced by 65%
Night sweats decreased by 76%
Leg muscle and joint pain dropped by 86%
Psychological symptoms like irritability also improved
Vaginal dryness, showed significant relief compared to placebo

Biochemical analysis also demonstrated a balancing effect on key reproductive hormones:

Estradiol (E2): Significantly increased, counteracting the drop seen in menopause
Free testosterone and progesterone: Increased, supporting hormonal balance
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH): Decreased, which is expected when estrogen levels rise
