IM BioLytic combines targeted enzymes and botanical extracts to address biofilm-related infections, which underlie up to 80% of chronic internal infections [2]. These protective microbial communities, composed of sugars, proteins, lipids, and extracellular DNA, shield bacteria and fungi from both antimicrobials and immune responses, making infections 10 to 1000 times more tolerant to treatment [2]. The formulation's multi-pathway approach targets the structural integrity and communication systems that allow these stubborn microbial colonies to persist.

The Serrazimes® AU protease enzyme system works by degrading the protein components that form biofilm matrices. Protease enzymes break down the protein fibers that bacteria use to hold biofilms together, causing structural weakening that allows antibiotics and immune cells to penetrate and eliminate the protected bacteria. Clinical studies demonstrate that protease therapies improve wound healing, reduce infection rates, and accelerate the breakdown of biofilm-contaminated tissues, making this enzymatic approach essential for disrupting established microbial communities.

Cellulase and lipase enzymes from Trichoderma longibrachiatum and Rhizopus oryzae respectively target additional structural components of the biofilm matrix. While the document doesn't specifically detail cellulase and lipase mechanisms against biofilms, these enzymes work synergistically with proteases to break down the complex polysaccharide and lipid components that contribute to biofilm stability and protection.

Pomegranate extract, standardized to ellagic acid content, provides potent anti-biofilm activity through multiple mechanisms. The natural compounds punicalagin and ellagic acid interfere with bacterial biofilm formation by blocking the production of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) components and inhibiting quorum sensing signals necessary for biofilm coordination. Clinical studies have demonstrated that pomegranate extracts significantly weaken biofilms of stubborn pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, while also directly damaging bacterial membranes to reduce survival within biofilm structures.

Ceylon cinnamon extract contributes cinnamaldehyde, which disrupts biofilms through interference with bacterial communication systems. Cinnamaldehyde destabilizes bacterial coordination by preventing EPS production and disrupting quorum sensing circuits like LasI/LasR and RhlI/RhlR, which are bacteria's communication systems [31]. This compound reduces bacterial movement, stress responses, and overall biofilm structure, particularly effective against Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli and Vibrio species. Laboratory studies confirm that cinnamon oil components can disrupt mature fungal and bacterial biofilms, especially those formed by Candida albicans and E. coli.

Moderate Interactions

Medications changed by the liver

• Tramadol

• Metoprolol

• Fluoxetine

• Paroxetine

• Tamoxifen

• Amitriptyline

Some medications are changed and broken down by the liver. Pomegranate might change how quickly the liver breaks down these medications. If you are taking medications metabolised by the liver, monitor for any changes in how your medication affects you.
